Nonprofit Accounting & Bookkeeping

Reliable records. Meaningful reports. Ongoing support.

Managing a nonprofit requires more than tracking income and expenses. Your financial records should help you understand available resources, monitor program costs, and report to your board and funding partners.

We provide ongoing accounting and bookkeeping support so your leadership team can make informed decisions and devote more attention to your mission.

Scope built around you

We define the scope around your organization’s needs, whether you require full monthly bookkeeping or support for your existing accounting staff.

Our services can include

Accounting support for nonprofit reporting

  • Monthly bookkeeping and reconciliations: Record transactions and reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Nonprofit financial reporting: Prepare statements of financial position, activities, and functional expenses, as appropriate to the engagement.
  • Donor-restricted fund tracking: Maintain accounting records that distinguish resources with and without donor restrictions and track releases from restrictions.
  • Grant and program accounting: Organize revenue and expenses by grant, program, or funding source to support reporting requirements.
  • Functional expense allocations: Help establish and apply documented methods for allocating expenses among program services, management and general, and fundraising.
  • Accounts payable and receivable support: Help organize vendor bills, payments, pledges, and other receivables.
  • Payroll accounting: Record payroll activity and allocate personnel costs across programs and supporting functions.
  • Budget-to-actual reporting: Help management and board members understand financial performance against the approved budget.
  • Cleanup and year-end preparation: Reconcile outstanding balances, address bookkeeping backlogs, and organize schedules for your tax preparer or independent auditor.
Audit independence

Accounting and audit engagements are evaluated separately. If we provide accounting or bookkeeping services to your organization, our ability to serve as its independent auditor depends on the nature of those services and applicable independence requirements. Management retains responsibility for its records, financial statements, and decisions.
